Flirting With the Enemy [tag: Leonardo]

Leo followed Karai closely. This was all rather exciting. He always had a plan before heading into a situation, and the fact that there was a mutant turtle and would seemed to be a non human woman, was even more exciting. Of course he was questioning why the woman needed a muzzle.

Once they were inside there was no turning back. Master splinter would be so mad at him right now. It was kind of fun being a little doing something that he knew his family wouldn't approve of. Freeing. Maybe he would do this more often, this must be what Raph feels like when he runs off to do god knows what.

For now he would continue to follow Karai. He would only take over if he had to. Funny, it was easier to give Karai the leadership role then it was with Raph. He felt too much compitation with Raph. Plus, Karai had a more level head...He hoped.

Indeed, this whole 'mission' was exhilarating and rebellious and would surely land both of them in hot water, if either of their fathers found out. But this was what it was to act like a teenager, something they both were, but that privilege had been stripped from them and replaced with responsibility that neither of them fully wanted. But tonight, they would act as they were, two teenagers with a mischievous twinkle in their eyes.


Fortunately Leonardo was correct. Karai was level headed and even caught up in the excitement of breaking the rules, she knew they had to be careful. With Leo following, she slipped inside, keeping a safe distance from the men that held the young woman captive, and the entrapped mutant Turtle that looked near death.


Hiding behind crates that had yet to be unpacked, Karai watched as the red head was unmuzzled then quickly shoved inside of a glass cell. The girl's blood curling screams could not be heard from her containment, but her anger was evident. Her eyes went from red to complete black, dark veins rolling beneath her eyes as she slammed her petite body against the bullet proof glass...


The fangs were obvious, and it became clear of what she was the moment the blood bag was slipped in through the feeding slot and the girl wasted no time sinking her teeth into it, contentment quickly washing over her. Several streams of red squirting from the punctures, splattering against the glass....


"A vampire..." Karai whispered in disbelief, but it shouldn't be so far fetched.. she was hanging out with a giant Turtle, after all.


The young Turtle that was contained in what appeared to be a glass coffin had been taken into another room, completely out of sight. But they would find him..


Her gaze shifted to Leonardo, wondering if his initial feelings had changed. "Do you still wish to free her?"

Well this did change things. The woman who was imprisoned didn't seem safe at all. Now Leo wasn't sure if they should let her out or not.

Lets find that turtle first/ Maybe he can tell us more about the woman. We'll go from there. Leo said in a low voice.

He then nodded to the door the others walked into. They would have to start there, and stay low. He would hate to end up as a snack for the vampire woman.

It seemed that Leonardo's tune was finally changing, and for good reason. The red-head didn't seem stable and acted much like a feral animal as her fangs sank into the blood bag, black veins rolling beneath her glowing red eyes.



"Then lets find the Turtle, shall we?"


As soon as the room fell silent, Karai edged out from behind their hiding spot, careful not to draw the girl's attention in their direction. Still, as stealthy as they were and despite the thick glass barrier that stood between them, it seemed the Vampire girl had caught their scent... Leonardo's scent..


Burning red eyes followed the pair, even as they remained hidden behind the various unpacked objects that signified that these Agents had not been in this building long. Stopping to crouch behind a Humvee, she glanced at her unlikely partner. "She cannot see us, yet she can track us. She can detect our scent..." And the Kunoichi had a strong feeling that it was Leonardo that she sought. Her gaze had kept in perfect time with every spot he was hidden..


But with the blood bag now depleted, the Red eyed teenager had gotten her fill and the need to sink her fangs into Mutant flesh had succumbed for the moment. She had detected the scent of two. A mutant, and a normal being. The fact that there was an uncaged mutant here meant that someone from the opposite side of the spectrum was here. Someone that may be kind enough to release her from this glass prison...


The veins beneath her eyes disappeared beneath the depths of her pale skin, once burning red eyes turning yellow as she dropped the empty blood bag at her feet. Once fierce and intimidating, she now looked like a delicate teenage girl who needed protecting...


"Is someone there?" Of course, she already knew the answer to that. Her voice was soft but urgent. "Please help me..."

Leo had also noticed the strange woman watching them. It was Karai's words that confirmed what he already suspected. The woman was following his sent. She was clearly not human. And Leo did want to help her if only out of his own morbid curiosity.

He stood still behind the unpacked boxes and was ready to move on until the woman spoke.

He glanced at Karai then back at the woman. she seemed to be in trouble, but Leo knew it could be an act. Seeing no one around and being aware of the cameras that were in the room, Leo stepped closer to the woman's prison.

He expected Karai to follow, but if she chose not to he wouldn't have mind. it would be good to have a look out while Leo investigated the vampire woman.

Who are you? And why should we help? Clearly you not human.

It then crossed Leo's mind that these were scientist. Maybe she was once human. and what of the mutant turtle they seen, they had to help him.

Why are you in here? And where is the turtle that we seen being brought in?

Indeed. Karai thought it was best to stay back and keep a look out for Leonardo. 'Interview with the Vampire' wouldn't benefit her in the slightest, not with Leonardo doing so. He could relay any useful information.. but why did she had an overpowering feeling that the blue-masked Turtle would release her?

Finally, the mutant stepped out of hiding and the Vampire's curious gaze locked on him, drinking in the imagery of a very large Turtle. Being 'new' to this world and her rebirth so fresh that she didn't know her own strength, he appeared intimidating.. and who knew what powers he had. Was he like Phoenix?


Soon he was close to the glass and she gave him a helpless look, her left hand, fingertips still slick with blood came up to press against the glass and a sadness holding in her gaze...


"My name is Victoria.." She told him, just before the next question issued from his lips...


"And why should we help? Clearly you not human."


His words pierced through her like a dagger. The hurt probably reflected in her gaze, but it was fair. She was no longer human, nor had she been for three hundred years. "Neither are you.." She reminded him, dropping her hand from the glass. He wasn't going to help her...


"You will condemn me for not being 'normal'.."



"Why are you in here? And where is the turtle that we seen being brought in?"


How could she respond to that when she didn't know the answers herself? The last solid thing she remembered was dying, but the world had changed so much since then. Her father was here and seemed to be trying to.. help her? But why was she stuck in this glass cell? A good solid answer would be hard to give, but she met his gaze, the same helpless nonhuman yellow eyes holding his, hoping for understanding...


"Because.. it's as you said.... I'm not human..." And with a dejected look, she gestured in the direction that Phoenix's glass 'coffin' had been taken and a pain of guilt took her. He was in that condition because of her.. and of course, the Turtle would go for his own kind over her...


"He is.. hurt. Is he family?" He must be.. they were the same species, though, Phin was much paler.. and so much smaller.. "Before you go.. may I at least know your name?"

This was putting Leo on the spot. Yes the girl clearly fed off some unsavory nourishment, but she seemed to genuinely need help. If these scientist did this to her, she could be in some real danger. Of course letting her out could put him and Karai in danger.

Leonardo. He finally answered as he struggled with his thoughts and what to do. He glanced back at Karai, he didn't have time to stand there and think about this.

Don't make me regret this. He told her in a stern tone.

No, not family, but still someone who needs help, and you will help us get him. Leo told her as he went to release her from her prison.

Victoria was surprised that this Turtle was actually going to help her, and for the first time since her rebirth, she felt something other than fear, confusion, sadness and hunger. Hope. She had only known glass walls since her eyes flickered open for the first time since the 1800s...


Hearing that the Turtle wanted her help saving the other one caused a frown. "I do not know if he is stable enough to be moved, Leonardo. He is not in any immediate danger.. we may have to come back for him..."



Karai on the other had was taking matters into her own. She moved into the gestured location, keeping to the shadows and finally approaching the chamber that appeared much like a transparent coffin. The young Turtle appeared lifeless, only the faintest movements of breathing that was assisted by machines and the bags that provided transfusion.


Even though he was a turtle, this one looked different than Leonardo and his brothers. His skin was ghost like. Almost white in appearance. His scarred plastron a pastel shade of yellow and carapace lime in color. He was younger than the Hamatos. If she had to guess, 14 at the most. He was lean with slight muscle and skin riddled with scars that indicated that he didn't have it easy. Had he survived in this city alone until now? His recent wounds had been sutured and bandaged which made the Kunoichi wonder what had happened to him... and then she recalled the red-head and the blood bag.. was the Turtle her food source?

Leo opened the woman's cell and helped her out. No we have to get him now. Once they find out you're gone they'll have him moved and we might not find him again.

He looked over to where Karai had been and seen that she was gone. Hoping that she went after the young turtle, Leo took Victoria's hand and headed to the room Kara was in.

We have to get out of here before they notice anything. He told Karai and walked up to her looking down at the turtle.

He doesn't look so good. Don should be able to help.

Perhaps Leonardo did not understand the severity of Phoenix's situation,  otherwise he would have known moving him could prove lethal to the young Turtle. She wouldn't argue it and chose to let her rescuer see for himself. She stepped out of the cell with slight hesitation, still unknowing this world and the era but judging by the highly evolved equipment that this lab harbored, things had drastically changed.


After a moment she finally took his hand and stepped out of the cell that would have been her cage. A hint of a grin stretched across her lips as a gesture of thanks, but he seemed focused on helping his friend with the badly wounded Turtle. She followed closely by his side, catching the brief look that Karai spared her as the realization of what happened to the mutant set in. It caused her own gaze to shy away briefly, but she would try to distract either of them from making any accusations against her..


"His name is Project Phoenix.." She told the two, her gaze, appearing apologetic towards the creature falling on his young features. She was regretful for what she had done to him, but being inexperienced in this new mind of hers, she could not control it.


"Phoenix." Karai corrected the young woman as she worked at disabling the panel that controlled the sliding door of the 'coffin'. Success. The door slid back, releasing its contained healing vapors into the faces of those close enough to inhale. The air was crisp and cool... cool but weren't reptiles cold blooded?


"Cold air... it seems they are trying to keep him in a state of hibernation...to keep his body from using up so many resources as he recovers.."  Victoria noted, more to herself. Memories of her time in the lab with her father, all those years ago, briefly came back to her...


"Perhaps, but that also means a slower recovery time.." Karai pointed out. "It is as if they are keeping him alive for only one thing..." And her eyes shifted accusingly over to Victoria. "His blood. They are either extracting the mutagen from his blood or... he is a food source for someone.."


Just then, the captive's black eyes shot open and he gasped for air as he tried to pull himself up, frightened and confused gaze shifting over all of the new faces. His vision was blurry at first, but focus seemed to return the moment his eyes landed on Victoria. Memories of the attack came flooding back and his once innocent features turned vicious, red irises peeking out beneath their dark cloak as he focused on them, sending a wave of energy to their minds that would leave them with a crippling headache. Both Karai and Victoria instantly felt it, falling to their knees in agony. Phin held the contact for as long as he could, blood pouring from his nostrils from his exertion. Using this opportunity to his advantage, the young Turtle finally pushed himself out of the 'coffin', yanking out IVs and monitor patches as he did so. Despite how severely injured he was, he made a run for the door, his gaze losing contact with the three and freeing them of the agony....

Walking into the room and up to the turtle, Leo's heart sank. It seemed the young turtle was worse off then he thought. Maybe Victoria was right, maybe he was too weak to be moved. Before he could voice that, Karai had opened the sealed coffin.

Leo watched as the boy opened his eyes. Leo was going to speak but suddenly Phoenix was running for the door.

Leo ran after him and grabbed him by the shoulders.

Stop! We're not going to hurt you. She...Is not going to hurt you.

Yeah Leo put it together quickly when Karai mentioned he could be food for someone.

Calm down, we're here to help you.

Leo took his mask off and softly placed it against Phoenix's nose.

My name is Leonardo. My friend is Karai. we are going to take you somewhere safe ok.

Phoenix had almost made it to the door when he suddenly felt a hand against him. The youth quickly spun, his frightened gaze locking with the Turtle's as he tried, and failed at sending the energy that would treat him to the same overpowering headache that Karai and Victoria had just experienced moments before....


He was too weak, and exerting himself would only cause more harm. His struggles had opened up a few of the gashes that Bishop's staff had done a sloppy job at closing up. His snout was pouring due to the energy it had taken to 'threaten' the two women. The much larger Turtle pressed his bandanna against his snout and at first, the young Turtle tried to pull away, but then he realized the mutant was trying to help.


His frightened gaze turned slightly curious, moving over Leo's features. He had never seen another mutant before, and what were the chances of another mutant Turtle existing?


'There is.. no place safe...' Shaky hands moved frantically, signing a response to the larger Turtle, though, not expecting him to understand. Very few he had ever encountered could understand him. Even if they knew sign, his version was modified due to having three digits. Others just didn't care to understand. He was a dumb animal with only one purpose. To be hacked to pieces or bled dry because his blood was more valuable than his life...



Knowing that she unsettled the young Mutant, Victoria kept her distance, feeling regretful and sad that she had caused him so much fear and pain. She had no memory of going into that faze, but the evidence had been there, and she was conscious enough to know that when hungry, she had this overpowering craving and need for blood.

Leo had no idea what the boy was trying to say, but he could see the fear in the turtle's eyes. Leo placed both hands on his shoulders.

I have a safe place, where there are more like us. My brothers. i want you to come with me. away from here. But we have to get out now. ok.

He didn't know what to do with Victoria. He didn't want to just leave her. Maybe she could stay at the foot tower.

come on, we have to go.

Of course Leonardo and the others couldn't understand him. It was frustrating and scary, this barrier that was often between him and everyone. Even in the off chance that he found someone that wouldn't hurt him, communication remained a challenge.

The youth gave a sad nod, his legs feeling heavy and unsteady and the dizziness threatened to take him. All of his energy had been spent trying to escape them. He tried to fight through it; shaky hands moved up to grasp his pounding head, squinting in pain and his lungs were struggling extra hard to keep up...


The blood loss was too much and try as he may to seem okay, he couldn't force his body to cooperate. His eyes fluttered and he managed to give Leo a helpless look before the darkness took him and his body fell limp against the blue-clad turtle.



"We should leave him here.. he won't survive long enough for help elsewhere.." Victoria suggested, feeling panicked and not wanting the young Turtle's death to be on her hands.



"No. The tower is not far from here. The Foot medics will insure that he receives the treatment his survival requires..."

Leo was a little lost on what to do. If Victoria was feeding off the turtle then they had to stay seprate. And after seeing how she went after that bag of blood, it was clear the woman lost all control when hungry. He would keep a close eye on that. Maybe he would have to stay at the tower for a few days. He would have to make up some story to tell his family. Though he wasn't in charge anymore. Don was. surely he could convince Don to not ask questions.

He almost laughed at the thought, Don not asking questions...

Then the turtle passed out and Leo caught him and lifted him into his arms. He nodded at Karai.

Karai is right. We'll make it to the tower. We'll bring him to the doctors then I'll help set you up. No one is getting left behind, now lets move.

Fortunately it seemed that Leonardo was in agreement of taking the little mute turtle back to the Foot tower, but she wasn't so sure if taking Victoria there was such a good idea. The girl seemed dangerous, but then again, she seemed to only have a thing for mutant blood. Besides, her clan were all trained ninja. If she foolishly tried to attack, then she would be dealt with.

Being mindful of their surroundings, Karai led the group out of the warehouse and started the trek back to the Tower. "Perhaps it would be beneficial to know exactly what the scientists want with her.." She said, gesturing to Victoria. It was obvious what the young Turtle's purpose was. A food source. Though, his unique coloration and the fact that he could give them a splitting headache certainly caught her interest.


"The boy has some kind of debilitating power... did you not feel it?" She asked Leonardo, wondering if he had gotten even a tinge of a headache...



Feeling overly shy and like a bug under a magnifying glass, Victoria hovered close to Leo, knowing that Karai probably wasn't too comfortable with taking her back with them. "I promise to not cause any trouble.." She told the woman, having no idea that she totally lost control when hungry, or that it was only mutants that she targeted.


"Yes, Phoenix has the ability to make your brain hurt. He can also move metal objects without touching them. His cell was constructed from a special kind of glass before I..." And she trailed off, having no memory of the attack, but she remembers the aftermath and the young Turtle dying in her arms before her father intervened... "Before I was locked away.."

Leo followed Karai and kept a close eye on put the turtle and the woman. Hearing that the young turtle had such powers was interesting, but he didn't ask questions about it, figuring both parties were tired and just needed some rest. though Leo and Karai had put together that the turtle had to be used as food, it didn't seem that Victoria was aware of that. Did she block it out?

Why were you locked away? Leo asked though he pretty much knew the answer to it. He wanted to see how much she knew about why she was in the cage.

Victoria had fallen into an awkward and confused silence, still trying to make sense of everything that had happened. She wished she could remember attacking Phoenix, not because she wanted some sick satisfaction of recollecting every moment of pain she had inflicted on the youth. She just felt so.. out of control of her body, and her mind. Like something had been taken from her when in fact, it had been life that was given back.

Hearing Leo's question, Vic pulled herself from her thoughts, frowning. They deserved a straightforward answer, but it was something that she herself would like to know...


"I... wish I knew.." She told him, gaze slightly downcast in shame. "I... died in the late Eighteen-hundreds.. that much I remember.." She told them, realizing how ridiculous it sounded to her own ears...


"At least... I think I did. But... I remember a life before this... before this technology and time period and hunger. I was.. shot..." And her tone became laden with emotion.. "I was shot so many times and... I ..died.. and my fiance'..." A bloody tear ran down her cheeks. I was...16.. I am sixteen.. because I'm exactly as I was the moment I died..." With the exception of a few major things such as immortality.


"I know... this all sounds crazy, but this is what I know." She told them honestly.

Karai had been silently listening on, in disbelief that this girl was over centuries old. Still, she would leave the prying to Leonardo since she seemed more comfortable with him. The Kunoichi spared a glance at the injured Turtle in Leonardo's arms, knowing he needed treatment soon. And not a moment too soon, the Foot Tower came into view.


"I am going to take you through the secret passage.." Karai told the group, sliding a manhole cover away from its entrance and silently slipped inside. She waited at the bottom for Leo to pass off his injured charge to her so he could climb down...

"There will be questions from my clan. I need time to address them before they are made aware of your presence..."

Leo listened to her tail. It was heard to swallow that she was so old. She seemed like a real life vampire!

Don't worry, everything will be fine now. He hoped so anyway, he noticed the bloody tear drop and at first thought she was hurt, then he realized that she was crying. This woman was so strange, it fasinated Leo. He also knew Don would have a field day with er, test and all. Not that he would allow that. Clearly this woman had been through enough.

He followed Karai and once she was at the bottom of the ladder, he handed Phin over to her. He then moved so Victoria could climb down first, holding her hand to help her.

Once they were all in the sewer, manhole cover slid back in place, Leo took back the young turtle and followed Karai to the tower.

Victoria was uncertain about a lot of things, unsure of this world and frightened by the unknown.. but hearing Leo tell her that everything would be fine convinced her somehow. Like he held all of life's answers and could make them all okay merely by saying so. He certainly had that leader quality about him, and she admired it wholly. The temptation to convey her gratitude through a hug was overwhelming, but she also understood that getting too close would trigger something within her, because Phoenix was injured and some of his wounds still seeping through the bandages. Being too close to him caused a burning sensation in her stomach. A hunger she couldn't deny.


Once at the bottom,  Karai took Phoenix' unconscious form and held him while Leonardo cleared the steps. Then at his request, she carefully handed the youth back to him. Knowing that the leucistic turtle possessed certain abilities held her interest. He could be useful in her army. Yes, he would be more comfortable with his own kind, but Karai could make his life plush, for a price.


The young kunoichi shook the thoughts from her head as she led the group directly to the infirmary, her mutant charges quickly earning the shocked attention of her staff.



"Listen to me, all of you..." She addressed the room, her voice stern and assertive. "Leonardo and his friends are our guests. The young one needs medical attention..." And she gestured for the blue-wearing Turtle to place Phin on one of the beds, knowing the cold steel of the tables would be too uncomfortable for reptilian flesh. "The white Turtle is to be treated as one of our own. He will receive the best care." She ordered, daring anyone to challenge her questionable orders. I understand that some of you may have conflicting feelings about these orders because of my father's vendetta against the Hamato clan, but this Turtle is an innocent..." It was much easier to phrase it in such a way instead of clashing  with the followers about her father's life long blood feud with Leonardo's family. "My father left me in charge. Leonardo should not be held accountable for the actions of his ancestors." Karai informed, and was inwardly relieved when the staff quickly got to work, removing the old bloodied bandaged from the comatose Turtle and doing their best to insure his survival.


Breathing a silent, inward sigh of relief, Karai managed a small hint of a grin at Leonardo. Perhaps in her father's absence, an alliance could be formed in order to save this city....

Once at their destination, Leo did as he was instructed and laid the young turtle on the bed. he tried to make the mutant as comfortable as he could then backed away and stood next to Victoria. After Karai's speech he bowed to her in thanks.

Thank you, Karai. I wish for us to be allies, and I will do all I can to help turn this city around. In the mean time. We must figure out what to do with Victoria while she is here.

Just how dangerous could Victoria be? Could the foot handle her if she went off? Of course they could, but he didn't want to see the woman hurt. He thought for a moment. He wanted to stay of course, stay to see that Phin got the medical care he needed, stay to see that Victoria was taken care of and stay to talk about future plans of the foot and his own clan.

But he also needed to get back in touch with his brothers. Raph. He needed to contact Raph it had been too long sense he heard anything from him.

I will donate a pint or two of my own blood in case Victoria needs it. I'll also stay a bit longer, but then I have to see to my own family.

Karai watched to make sure that her staff was treating the 'ghost' turtle with the best of care. They buzzed around him, taking vitals and hooking up monitors as others removed the old bandages. The kunoichi's attention returned to Leo as he spoke, understanding his need to make sure that his temporary charges were taken care of. Indeed, it sounded as if both Victoria and Phoenix would be left at the tower, and she understood that it was mostly due to Leo's secrecy, and the fact that Phin needed care that he could not provide him.


The tower certainly had the resources, but everything came at a price. Long term care would be provided in exchange for their services. Victoria certainly showed strength, and if she was truly an immortal vampire, then that certainly had its perks. The young Turtle had some sort of special ability that could also prove useful. Both were young and could easily be trained to serve their cause.


Giving a nod at Leo, agreeing that it could be beneficial to both clans to form an alliance.


"Um.. if you're willing to give blood, then we need to get on it..." One of the nurses informed Leo, but not to feed Victoria. "The young one has lost a dangerous amount of blood. Assuming you two are a match... he needs a transfusion...."



Victoria had been ushered onto a small stool, away from the chaos as another nurse checked her over. Still, she could see, and more critical, she could smell Phin's blood as it poured from the gash in his neck that had been reopened, most likely from his earlier frantic attempt to escape, back at Headquarters. That familiar, overpowering and burning feeling churned inside of her.. hunger...red-hot scorching thirst...


Her eyes glowed red, dark veins becoming visible and rolling beneath her piercing eyes...

Leo nodded to the doctors and went over to them. He wasn't aware that all hell was about to break loose. He sat down and waited for the doctors to do what they needed to do.

I'll make sure Victoria is settled in before leaving. He told Karai. But you'll have to point out where it is she'll be staying.

He then finally looked over at Victoria and frowned.

Are you ok over there?

Still in disbelief over Karai's alliance with the enemy, the nurses quickly got to work, prepping Leo's arm for the transfusion. Just as the needle slid into his vein, it seemed the Turtle's attention was drawn elsewhere. Victoria. The young woman seemed to be unwell, and her unworldly appearance shocked the medical staff, causing a few to panic.



...wee those... vampire fangs? No, vampires were nothing more than a mythology, but that jagged little pill of reality was hard to swallow considering they were currently taking blood from a large mutant turtle, and attempting to save another.


Struggling to keep control, Victoria tried to ignore the burning hunger that the sight of blood was causing. Leo's words barely registered but she managed an unconvincing nod, struggling from the agonizing ain and hunger. "I'm fine.." She tried to assure everyone, fingers digging into the bed she was sitting on, ripping through the material and crushing the metal structure beneath..



Karai was far from convinced. Her gaze drifted to the Foot guard that had been watching on anxiously.. "She does not need to be in here. You. Take her to the guest suite across from my room." She instructed. The guard hesitated, not wanting to find out if she was truly a vampire, but catching that stern look from their new leader, he quickly willed himself forward.


Victoria hesitated, not wanting to leave Leonardo, but she also realized that all of the blood was triggering something she could not control. Finally with great reluctance, she stood and allowed the guard to take her away....


Karai's gaze now fixated on Leonardo. "That is... strange." She commented quietly. "The blood of wounded soldiers did not trigger her. But the moment his bandages were removed..." And she let that sink in, wondering if Leo would come to the same conclusion. It seemed that Victoria only fed on the blood of mutants...

Leo watched as Victoria was taken away. I'll come check on you before I leave. He promised her. Once she was gone is attentioned turned back to Karai. He nodded his head in understanding.
